What is Tencel®?
There is a new fiber in town, and this one is quickly becoming a favorite of many eco-conscious brands, including Alpine Nation.
Tencel® is a lyocell material, made from 100% woodpulp and produced by the Austrian company Lenzing. Because of it’s natural origin, it is completely biodegradable, making it an eco-friendly option.
But what’s equally important: it has an outstanding performance in hot temperatures and a superb touch. To top it off, it’s softer than silk, more absorbent than cotton and cooler than linen.
It's moisture wicking
Tencel® can absorb huge amounts of moisture, without wetting the fiber surface. It can also absorb around 50% more than cotton. This supports the body's natural temperature regulation and keeps your skin feeling comfortably cool and dry.
Quick to dry
Tencel® dries extremely quickly. Did your shirt get damp under your backpack? Then you’ll notice it dries much faster than traditional cotton shirts.
Tencel® is a cellulose fiber made from sustainably farmed Eucalyptus or Beech trees grown in FSC forests. These forests have a certification that guarantees responsible felling and replanting of the trees. This wood is then processed in a closed-loop process, meaning that 99% of all chemicals and water are recycled instead of being released out into the environment.
Tencel® + Merino - a match made in heaven
So what happens when you combine Tencel® and merino?
Both fibers are known for their ability to keep you warm and also wick moisture away from your body. But Tencel® is capable of wicking sweat three times faster than merino alone, so when combined, their performance capability dramatically increases. The combination of merino and Tencel® keep wearers cool, dry and comfortable in the summer, and warm and dry in the winter.
Softer, more durable, with the capability to dry faster than merino alone, this blend is ideal for outdoor activities, everyday wear and also for travel.
